Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) makes producers financially and operationally responsible for the products and packaging they place on the market, from the point of sale through to end of life. It has applied to packaging for years. It is now arriving for textiles and footwear, market by market.

In practice, that means registering as a producer in each market, reporting the volumes you place on it, and paying fees to a Producer Responsibility Organisation that runs collection and recycling on the industry's behalf. Those fees are increasingly eco-modulated, so products that are easier to recycle cost less.
